QIMR Berghofer Twin and Family Studies

Twins and their families play a unique role in medical research because they allow scientists to estimate the relative importance of hereditary genetic factors compared to those from the environment in which we live.

The Brisbane Longitudinal Twin Study (BLTS) has been investigating genetic and environmental contributions to various diseases and conditions for over 30 years.

Here is a selection of the many studies made possible by the individuals and families who have generously participated – leading to research that continues to shape our understanding of health and disease.
