Holiday Science Program

Looking to get a taste of what it’s like working in a medical research laboratory? QIMR Berghofer run a one day training program over the school holidays in our purpose built education laboratory to give high school students an insight into life as a scientist.

About the program

We host one day workshops during the school holidays where you can gain practical skills related to genetics, infectious disease and blood biology in our purpose built education laboratory.

The program is open to Queensland high school students in years 10, 11 or 12 and is free to attend. Applications open at the start of each year.

2026 program dates

Aplications for 2025 have now closed. Please check back in term 1 of 2026 for program dates and applications.

Criteria and selection

To be eligible for the program you must be:

  • an Australian student in years 10, 11 or 12 at an Queensland high-school or college;
  • studying at least one science subject.

Priority is given to students who live outside South-East Queensland, and/or those who have not attended a QIMR Berghofer program in the past.

Have you previously attended either the Day in the Life of a Scientist, High School Work Experience or Holiday Science Experience programs at QIMR Berghofer?
Have you previously applied for either the Work Experience Program or Holiday Science Experience Program at QIMR Berghofer in the past and not been successful?
If you wish to attend with another student to work in pairs, please provide their name. They will also need to apply separately.
