About

Jye is a research assistant in the ADF MIDI laboratory. Jye graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology in 2016 and a Master of Biotechnology in 2018. Jye has been a PhD candidate at the University of Queensland since 2019, working on the in vitro characterisation and mechanisms of action of antimalarial drugs.

Research Skills

Molecular biology, molecular epidemiology, in-vitro culture of malaria parasites, malaria microscopy (WHO certified), in vitro drug assays

Area of Interest

Jye currently conducts molecular surveillance of genetic mutations that enable the malaria parasite to develop resistance against antimalarial drugs, as well as gene deletions which allow parasites to evade detection on rapid diagnostic tests. This work informs malaria-related policy in the World Health Organisation, NGOs and the Ministries of Health in collaborating countries, as well as the Australian and US militaries.
