Iron disorders and liver disease research leaders

QIMR Berghofer researchers played a major role in the discovery of the genetic region responsible for the iron overload disease haemochromatosis, helping to transform the lives of patients living with the common inherited condition. This legacy continues through initiatives such as the Australian Haemochromatosis Registry, and advances in understanding and treating liver inflammation and scarring to prevent irreversible damage to this vital organ.
