Background

This theme examines how senescent cells drive chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression and frailty.

Ongoing work includes:

  • Single-cell omics: Mapping senescent cell states and immune microenvironments in human CKD using single-cell RNA-Seq, spatial transcriptomics, and proteomics and wet lab validation.
  • Future work: Therapeutic translation: Evaluation of senolytic agents such as fisetin and navitoclax in ex vivo human kidney tissue and clinical trial settings (SUSTAIN-CKD).
  • Developing senescence “fingerprints” across organs and disease states using publicly available and in-house datasets.
  • Comparative analyses of multiorgan single-cell data to identify conserved and tissue-specific ageing mechanisms.
