Background

The sun has both harms and benefits. The balance of these differs between individuals according to their skin type and underlying risk of skin cancer. We have developed a new position statement that provides risk-stratified advice, but the information is nuanced and complex. We need to derive strategies to support the Australian population to make decisions that optimise their sun exposure and/or support decisions about vitamin D supplementation.

Aim

To develop a series of materials and an over-arching strategy to provide information and support to Australians, ensuring equitable access.

Approach

This project will involve stakeholder interviews, focus groups, and trials to test the effect of a comprehensive sun balance strategy on knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours regarding sun exposure, sun protection, and vitamin D supplementation.
