Discover the Herston Health Precinct

QIMR Berghofer is located in Brisbane's Herston Health Precinct, a collaborative community home to more than 30 health facilities, medical research institutes and universities. The Precinct's 13,000 clinical and non-clinical staff, scientists, researchers and students work together to deliver excellence in health.

Queensland's nucleus of health innovation

Located just three kilometres from the CBD and in proximity to start-up communities and creative hubs which help make up the Brisbane’s innovation ecosystem, the Herston Health Precinct is close to airports and transport infrastructure.

The Herston Health Precinct is one of Australia’s most significant hubs for integrated healthcare and research. Spanning 20 hectares and centred around the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital—the state’s largest hospital—it brings together world-leading expertise in medical care, research, education, training and innovation.

The Precinct sits within easy reach of Brisbane’s lively cultural and lifestyle districts. Just nearby are the Brisbane Showgrounds, the Bowen Hills precinct and QUT’s Creative Industries facilities at Kelvin Grove Urban Village. Major sports venues, entertainment spaces and the city’s Cultural Centre are also only a short distance away.

The Precinct also neighbours Victoria Park/Barrambin, a place of cultural and Indigenous importance, as well as the Victoria Park Golf Club.

Situated on Herston Road, QIMR Berghofer operates across three purpose-built buildings: the Clive Berghofer Cancer Research Centre, QIMR Berghofer Central and the Bancroft Centre and is connected to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service by covered walkways.

About Brisbane

Brisbane offers a cosmopolitan urban lifestyle, with weekend getaways only a short drive away – including coastal escapes and rural retreats. With days of year-round sunshine and clear blue skies, locals say that it’s “beautiful one day, perfect the next".

Just over an hour's drive north or south lie the world-renowned Sunshine and Gold Coasts with stretches of unspoilt, white sand beaches, stunning surf and subtropical hinterland rainforests.

Brisbane's music, arts, culture and culinary temptations, and modern economy, rival its southern counterparts. And, with nearly a third of its residents born overseas, the city is a model of multiculturalism.

World-class industrial capabilities support its growing reputation as an international investment destination. As one of the closest major Australian capital cities to Asia, Brisbane continues to become more globally connected – with growing transportation links and flights to the Asia-Pacific.
