About
Dr Poppy Grimes is a statistical geneticist specialising in complex traits, including psychiatric and neurological disorders. Her expertise spans genome-wide association studies, longitudinal modelling, network analysis, and reproducible pipeline development. She recently joined the Translational Neurogenomics Lab following her PhD in Precision Medicine from the University of Edinburgh (2026) which included leading the largest genetic study of adolescent depression to date.
Her current work applies multivariate genomic modelling and functional annotation to uncover shared genetic architecture across disorders, with a growing focus chronic conditions and women’s health – two areas that remain underserved in biomedical research.
Dr Grimes holds affiliate researcher positions at the University of Edinburgh and University of Sydney. She contributes to two patient/consumer involvement programs, working directly with consumer experts to ensure her research reflects the priorities of those it aims to serve. She maintains an active network of international collaborations across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australasia, and is a member of the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium (PGC) MDD working group, the EAGLE consortium and IPSG. She co-leads the PGC MDD Heterogeneity working group.
