Destiny is an early career researcher nearing completion of her Master’s degree under the supervision of Dr Lotta Oikari. Her current research focus has been on using stem cells to model and investigate the blood brain barrier in neurodegenerative disease and conducting screening of drug repurposing candidates for therapeutic effects. Throughout her studies she has presented her work at numerous conferences, been a delegate at the National Leadership Forum (2025), and been an active member of various fundraising and outreach initiatives. Her background begins with graduating from The University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Nursing 2022 before completing a 1 year research dissertation with Dr Nathan Stevenson on computational analysis of neonatal EEG seizures in 2023, an ongoing research interest of hers. Destiny has been working as a paediatric nurse at the Queensland Children’s Hospital before and during her Master’s degree. She plans to begin her PhD in the near future to continue her career in scientific medical research.
