About
Damian is a second-year PhD student in the Translational Neurogenomics Laboratory. He completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science from the Queensland University of Technology. Damian joined the lab during his Honours year, achieving first-class honours with his project involving identifying more effective treatments for anxiety by integrating transcriptomic and genetic data.
Damian’s current research aims to identify more effective treatments for mental health by exploring our genetics. It focuses on investigating genetic risk factors that are shared between different mental health comorbidities. By increasing our understanding of these factors, we may improve the treatment for multiple disorders by targeting a common mechanism.
Damian’s enthusiasm for genetic research stems from the intersection of three scientific fields of interest, including biology, medicine, and technology. Current projects include a review of research and methods investigating how shared genetic risk factors can be leveraged to improve the treatment of psychiatric disorders and breaking down the heterogeneity of depression via common comorbidities with physical health diseases.
