About
Chika Zumuk is a medical laboratory scientist and a PhD student with the University of Queensland. She is working on a project which focuses on developing an mRNA transmission blocking vaccine for zoonotic schistosomiasis.
It is believed that combining an effective veterinary vaccine alongside human praziquantel therapy and other control measures will drastically reduce human transmission of schistosomiasis caused by Schistosoma japonicum.
Chika is supported by a full scholarship from the University of Queensland Research Training Program. She holds a Masters degree in Medical Microbiology and Parasitology from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, and a Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences from the University of Nigeria. Prior to her PhD, she worked as a Medical laboratory Scientist in Nigeria and Brisbane.
