About
Chika Zumuk is a PhD student at the University of Queensland, supported by a full scholarship through the University’s Research Training Program.
Her research focuses on the development of an effective veterinary-based transmission-blocking vaccine (TBV) for Schistosoma japonicum, a key zoonotic agent of schistosomiasis. By targeting animal reservoirs, her work aims to disrupt the parasite’s transmission cycle and significantly reduce human infection rates when combined with praziquantel therapy.
Chika holds a Master’s degree in Medical Microbiology and Parasitology from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, and a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences from the University of Nigeria with clinical diagnostic experience.
